Rt. Hon. Ahmed Idris Wase, Deputy Speaker of the 9th House of Representatives, visited the family of the late LT. General Jeremiah Timbut Useni to express his heartfelt condolences following the passing of the revered elder statesman on Thursday, January 23, 2025, in Paris.
LT. General Jeremiah Useni, a retired lieutenant general of the Nigerian Army, was a distinguished public servant who contributed significantly to Nigeria’s development. Over his illustrious career, he held several key positions, including Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) during the Gen. Sani Abacha administration, where he played a pivotal role in the administration and infrastructural development of Abuja. He also served as Minister of Transport and Quarter-Master General of the Nigerian Army, demonstrating his unwavering commitment to public service. Additionally, from 2015 to 2019, he served as a Senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, representing the Plateau South constituency of Plateau State, further cementing his legacy as a leader dedicated to the welfare of his people.
During his visit, Rt. Hon. Wase reflected on the profound impact the late LT. Gen had on his life and family. He described LT. Gen Useni as a father figure whose kindness, leadership, and support extended beyond his official duties. Wase particularly appreciated the general’s personal involvement in securing of his brother’s employment in the aviation sector, a gesture that left a lasting impression on his family.
Addressing the family, Wase acknowledged the immense loss of a man who had not only served the country diligently but also inspired and supported many individuals on a personal level. He prayed for God Almighty to grant the family the strength, comfort, and fortitude to endure this difficult time. He further expressed hope that LT.
