Mr Bawa, a farmer of Agatu Local Government in Benue State was arrested on Saturday for allegedly poisoning his farm that fulani cattle invaded and ate resulting in the instant death of 13 cattle
It was alleged that “he poisoned Rice chaff and invited one cattle herder to bring his cows to come and eat it.”
“After eating 13 cows died instantly and others were quickly treated by veterinary doctors,” an online source reported
Refuting the allegation, Mr Bawa said “I only carried out an agricultural practice of Rodents/insect & pests elimination from my farm with the use of Rodenticide, pesticides and insecticides.”
“We were all taught this in school in agriculture. It’s legal, in order to protect crops & improve yield.”
However, the owners of the cattle insisted that he poisoned his farm, so therefore, “He was arrested by police and he’ll face the wrath of the law!”
He lamented that it was a crime for the farmer, Mr Bawa to “take the laws into his hands”.
