In what could best be described as a confirmation of the speculation of the deteriorating working relationship between President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and his Vice, Sen Kashim Shettima, the Vice President today directed a political missile at his boss
Speaking at the former Minister of Justice and Attorney General of the Federation, Adoke’s book launch, Vice President Shettima said that Senator Aminu Tambuwal, the then Speaker of the House of Representatives, dared to tell President Jonathan, when he was considering removing him as Borno governor, “Your Excellency, you don’t have the power to remove an elected councillor.”
“The President was still not convinced; he raised the idea at the Federal Executive Council.”
The Vice President is sending a direct Message to his boss, President Tinubu who just recently removed an elected Executive Governor in Rivers State through a state of emergency.
The polity has been heated in the past few weeks with the rumours of Shettima likely to be dropped as the running mate to President Tinubu come 2027
The speculation started when the ruling All Progressive Congress, APC during it’s North East Zonal meeting, the region where Shettima comes from, adopted the President for reelection without the Vice President
The meeting which ended abruptly following free flow punches thrown at each other saw the former APC Chairman, Dr Umar Ganduje escaping mob action narrowly
The latest public outburst of Shettima today shows that he has accepted his destiny but wont fold his arms and watch.
Apart from Governor Babagana Zulum of Borno State actions and inactions lately against the Tinubu’s presidency which are glaring that he is dancing to the tune of Kashim Shettima, his political godfather, Shettima has today confirmed the sour relationship with the jibe aimed at Tinubu
Obviously, those who chose to live in self denial that Tinubu and Shettima are still at par with one another should continue to. But today’s outing of Shettima is certainly the last stroke that’ll break the camel’s back. One thing is sure, that the high-level political re-alignment is not done yet.
