The nation’s Apex Court, the Supreme Court on Friday, 4th April, 2025 in Abuja has sacked Julius Abure as the National Chairman of Labour Party

The Supreme Court in a unanimous decision by a five-member panel held that the Court of Appeal in Abuja which recognized Abure as the National Chairman on the 17th January, 2025 lacked the jurisdiction to have affirmed Abure as the Chairman of LP since the substance of the case was about the party’s leadership

The lordships further held that the issue of leadership was an internal affair of a party over which courts lack jurisdiction

Furthermore, the Supreme Court noted that the appeal filed by Senator Esther Usman and another was allowed, having been found to be meritorious.

The court also observed that, based on the submissions before it, Abure’s tenure had already expired. Consequently, it dismissed the cross-appeal filed by the Abure faction of the Labour Party.
