… Despite fierce ambushes staged by the terrorists, troops pushed deep into the forests, clearing key locations like Areo, Damoria, and Tumuna Village, all previously used as terrorist logistics hubs and launchpads for attacks on civilians and security convoys.
In a bold and high-impact offensive, Nigerian troops under Operation FANSAN YANMA Phase V have taken the war directly to the heart of terror enclaves in Sokoto and Zamfara States, wiping out six terrorists and dismantling notorious camps used to launch deadly attacks.
The multi-day operation saw troops navigating some of the most dangerous terrain in the North West, including Gidan Madi, Tsamiya Village, Tudun Ruwa, Alela, and Goboro Forest, known hotspots for the Lakurawa terror faction.
A senior military source confirmed that during the engagements, six terrorists were neutralized, while several others escaped with gunshot wounds. Weapons, magazines, two handheld radios, and several motorcycles were recovered from the destroyed camps — items believed to be central to the group’s mobility and communication network.
Unfortunately, the operation wasn’t without sacrifice. One gallant soldier was wounded in action and is receiving treatment at the 8 Division Military Hospital in Sokoto, while a brave vigilante lost his life in the fight.
This decisive operation marks a significant blow to terrorist operations in the region and underscores the military’s growing momentum in reclaiming the forests from insurgent grip.
