Member representing Langtang North Central Constituency and dual Chairman, House Committee on Health, Security and Labour, Hon Daniel, Nanbol Listick has called on the Plateau State Government to immortalize “Late Lt. Gen. J.T. Useni fondly called Baba Mai Tuwo was a revered former Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), former Bendel State Military Governor, Quarter Master General of the Nigerian Army and astute politician and former Distinguished Senator who made lots of sacrifices for the unity, growth and development of Nigeria”

Hon Listick moved the motion at the Plenary of Tuesday, 11th February, 2025 in a notice of motion titled: “A CALL ON THE PLATEAU STATE GOVERNMENT TO IMMORTALIZE LATE SEN. (LT. GEN.) JEREMIAH TIMBUT USENI”

Listick submitted that “Whereas the late Lt. Gen. (Senator) Jeremiah Timbut Useni (Rtd.) made outstanding contributions to our Nation Nigeria, which memory continue to inspire future generations, he passed away on Thursday 23rd January, 2025 after a protracted illness; he was a visionary leader who worked tirelessly to promote the welfare and prosperity of Nigerians and Plateau people in particular”.

Extolling the virtues of Baba Mai Tuwo he continued that “His selfless dedication, wisdom and compassion earned him the respect and admiration of all who knew him as he was a symbol of excellence, an icon and a very Senior Army Officer in Nigeria; a rare gem, a unifying force and a man of many parts”.

“Late Lt. Gen. J.T. Useni fondly called Baba Mai Tuwo was a revered former Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), former Bendel State Military Governor, Quarter Master General of the Nigerian Army and astute politician and former Distinguished Senator who made lots of sacrifices for the unity, growth and development of Nigeria”.

He argued that “It is in this wise that there is need for the Plateau State Government to immortalize Baba Mai Tuwo and his Biblical mantra “Do good, see good!” “Do bad, see bad double” (Galatians 6:7-10) may also be one of the inspiring legacies that will continue to live on through the countless lives he has touched”.

Calling for a minute silence in honour of the Elder statesman, he said “Now therefore, I call on this House to observe a one minute silence, pay condolence visit to his family and to publish the tribute of Late Baba J.T. Useni on two national dailies as well as resolve to call on the Plateau State Government to:

1. “Declare 21st February,  2025 a public holiday in Plateau State as a day to mourn Late Lt. Gen. J. T. Useni.

2. “Immortalize Late Distinguished Senator J.T. Useni by building and naming a health tertiary institution in Langtang in his honour (Tim Tali College of Health and Nursing Sciences, Langtang) and naming a prominent road, building or institution after him.

3. “Publish a commemorative book or documentary about his life and legacy”.

“I so move.” Daniel, Nanbol Listick
