Operatives of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) attached to the Zaria Unit Command have recovered and returned the sum of ₦3,727,500 in cash alongside other valuables worth about ₦500,000 from the scene of a fatal road crash.
According to a statement issued by the Corps Public Education Officer, Felicia Kalu, and dated March 16, 2026, the incident occurred on Sunday, March 15, 2026, along the Zaria–Funtua Highway near Zaria Academy. She explained that the crash involved a Toyota Corolla and a Peugeot 806 conveying nine passengers, adding that one person died at the scene while eight others sustained varying degrees of injuries.
Kalu stated that upon receiving a distress call, FRSC rescue teams responded promptly, administering first aid to the injured victims before evacuating them to the Ahmadu Bello University Teaching Hospital, Shika, for urgent medical attention.
She further disclosed that during the rescue and post-crash operation, officers discovered a large sum of money and other valuables scattered at the scene. However, she noted that the personnel, demonstrating a high level of integrity and discipline, carefully secured the ₦3,727,500 and safeguarded all recovered items to ensure their safe return to the rightful owners.
Kalu added that on Monday, March 16, 2026, the Zaria Unit Commander, Nasiru A. Falgore, formally handed over the recovered money to the victims in the presence of their relatives and witnesses, stressing that the gesture reflects the Corps’ commitment to protecting both lives and property.
Meanwhile, the Corps Marshal, Shehu Mohammed, commended the officers for their exemplary conduct, describing the act as a true reflection of the Corps’ core values of honesty, accountability, and service to humanity. He also praised the Unit Commander and the Zaria operatives for maintaining high standards of discipline and transparency.
Furthermore, the Corps Marshal reiterated that the FRSC under his leadership will continue to strengthen a culture of professionalism and accountability, while emphasizing that integrity must remain the guiding principle for all personnel in the discharge of their duties.
Kalu noted that the beneficiaries, overwhelmed with relief and gratitude, commended the Corps for its sincerity, observing that the officers not only saved lives but also protected their money at a critical moment. She added that the victims pledged to support road safety campaigns by promoting responsible driving and strict adherence to traffic regulations.
