It was a weekend of contrasting emotions in the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) 2025/2026 season. While there was delight in Jos, there was however, disgrace in Kano as Plateau United outclassed Barau FC 2–0, Kano Pillars once again made headlines for the wrong reasons.
At the New Jos Stadium, the Peace Boys turned on the style before an electrified home crowd. Returning goalkeeper Favour Bala put up a commanding performance between the sticks, producing several crucial saves that kept Barau FC at bay.

The hosts started brightly, dictating the tempo early on with fine link-ups between Jonathan, Kazeem, and Chinemerem. The first real threat came in the 21st minute when Gideon’s header clipped the top net from Kazeem’s corner – an early sign of Plateau’s intent.

Coach Shola Adegun’s side kept their composure, controlling possession and defending resolutely. Bala capped off his impressive outing with a double save late in the game to preserve a clean sheet.
When the final whistle blew after the 5 added minutes, the New Jos Stadium erupted two goals, three points, and a confident message from the Peace Boys to the rest of the league.
Meanwhile in Kano… Chaos Erupts Again
While football flourished in Jos, the story in Kano took an ugly turn. The Ahmed Musa-led Kano Pillars, popularly known as Masu Gida, once again brought the league into disrepute after their 1–1 home draw against Shooting Stars Sports Club (3SC) of Ibadan.
A disturbing video circulating on social media shows angry Pillars fans storming the pitch moments after the final whistle, attacking match officials and causing chaos. Despite repeated sanctions and warnings from league authorities, Pillars’ worrying pattern of indiscipline seems to be getting worse.
Trill Times News recalls that Plateau United were heavily penalized last season – losing three points and three goals – for a far less severe crowd incident against the visiting Enugu Rangers. Now, all eyes are on Davison Owumi’s League Management Company (LMC) to see if equal justice will be applied.
“If the league is serious about integrity, this is the moment to prove it,” said a senior journalist. “No team should be above the rules.”
As the league concludes its eighth week tomorrow, the LMC decision will remind fans once again that Nigerian football continues to walk a fine line between brilliance and chaos – one where discipline, not just talent, will define its legacy.
