Dr. Adedoyin Ajibike Okupe (March 22, 1952 – March 7, 2025) was a distinguished Nigerian physician and politician renowned for his significant contributions to both medicine and public service. Born in Iperu, Ogun State, Nigeria, he was the son of Chief Matthew Adekoya Okupe, a banker with Agbonmagbe Bank. He had four brothers—Kunle, Owo, Wemi, and Larry—and two sisters, Aina Okanlawon and Bisola Ayeni.

Okupe pursued his early education at St. Jude’s School in Ebute Metta, Lagos. He later co-founded the Royal Cross Medical Centre in Obalende, Lagos, alongside his colleagues Dr. Seyi Roberts and Dr. Ladi Okuboyejo, where he served as Managing Director.

Transitioning into politics, Okupe became the National Publicity Secretary of the National Republican Convention (NRC) during the Third Nigerian Republic. He was detained under General Sani Abacha’s regime and subsequently disqualified from participating in the United Nigeria Congress Party (UNCP) primaries. Later, he was a governorship aspirant of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Ogun State. Okupe served as Special Assistant on Media and Publicity to President Olusegun Obasanjo and as Senior Special Assistant on Public Affairs to President Goodluck Jonathan.

In the 2023 Nigerian general election, Okupe joined the Labour Party and initially stood in as the running mate and vice-presidential candidate until a substantive candidate was selected.

Dr. Doyin Okupe passed away on March 7, 2025, at the age of 72, after a prolonged battle with cancer. His health had reportedly deteriorated significantly in the weeks leading up to his demise. His legacy as a dedicated public servant and medical professional will be remembered.
