The people of perennially flood ravaged Sabongida in Langtang South shall soon heave a sigh of relief as the Executive Chairman, Hon Nanfa Alhassan Nbin, has commenced the construction of 1Km drainage and ecological control to avert what has been a yearly disaster
Sabongida in Langtang South has over the years received the blessings of rainfall with mixed feelings because of flood. While the joy of getting God given heavenly shower for the cultivation of the land is inexplicable, the sorrow of watching helplessly as farm produce, houses and farmlands are washed away by flood every year has been a nightmare for the people
Speaking to Trill Times News on the significance of the 1Km drainage and ecological control, Hon Nbin explained that “the project which setting out, excavation of foundation trenches have been completed with foundation blinding and walls already being erected, shall permanently stop any further flood”.
The workaholic Chairman recounted the yearly losses of his people to flood and said while he was campaigning last year at the peak of the flooding, he made a commitment that when elected, he shall ensure that flooding in Sabongida and some parts of Langtang South becomes a thing of the past
Hon Nbin assured that the project shall be completed within record time ahead of the looming heavy downpour of the season. “As you can see, the work is progressing speedily. This is deliberate because we want to complete it before the flood comes”
Trill Times News spoke with a cross section of residents of Sabongida who expressed their happiness at the project. They said with the construction of the drainages which has never stopped for a day since the work started, flood which has inflicted so much economical and psychological trauma on them shall be averted. They thanked the Chairman for embarking on impactful projects such as this and urged him to continue to serve humanity with such dignity, diligence and empathy
Our correspondent who was in Sabongida on Saturday, 2nd August, 2025 reports that work is progressing according to specifications and expects it to be completed in less than a month
