Major General Obinna Ajunwa has officially assumed command as the 49th Commander Armoured Corps (CAC) of the Nigerian Army. The handing and taking over ceremony, held on 7 February 2025, took place at the Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida Headquarters Complex of the Nigerian Army Armoured Corps (NAAC), Bauchi State.
In his inaugural remarks, Maj Gen Ajunwa urged officers and soldiers of the NAAC to rededicate themselves to their duties and uphold the highest level of professionalism. He emphasized that this was crucial in combating Boko Haram and the Islamic State of West Africa Province (ISWAP) using the capabilities of the Armoured Corps in ongoing military operations. The new CAC also commended the outgoing CAC for his achievements in the fight against insurgency and pledged to build upon his successes.
Maj Gen Ajunwa paid tribute to his predecessor, highlighting his contributions and leadership that have shaped the NAAC. He praised his experience and strategic vision, wishing him success in his new appointment.
In his farewell speech, Major General Muhammed Ahmed expressed gratitude to the officers and soldiers of the Corps for their support and dedication during his tenure. He acknowledged their professionalism and teamwork, which have been pivotal in securing victories over Boko Haram insurgents. He urged them to extend the same cooperation and commitment to the new CAC.
As part of the ceremony, both the incoming and outgoing CACs paid a courtesy visit to the Emir of Bauchi, Alhaji Rilwan Sulaiman Adamu CFR, to seek royal blessings. The Emir congratulated them on the successful transition and prayed for their success in their new roles.
The ceremony featured the signing of Handing and Taking Over Notes, a farewell address to soldiers of the Corps, a farewell get-together at General Hassan Usman Katsina Officers Mess, and a handing and taking over parade at the Quarter Guard in line with regimental traditions.
The event marked a significant transition in leadership, reinforcing the NAAC’s commitment to professionalism, discipline, and operational excellence in safeguarding Nigeria’s territorial integrity.
