In commemoration of National Children’s Day, Ochaworth Leadership and Community Development Initiative yesterday joined the Child Protection Network, Plateau State chapter, alongside other stakeholders, civil society organizations, NGOs, government agencies, and concerned citizens, in a peaceful awareness walk across Jos to demand stronger protection for the Plateau child.
The walk, which drew participants from across the state, was aimed at raising public consciousness and urging state actors to take decisive action against the rising cases of child trafficking, rape, sexual harassment, child labor, and other forms of abuse affecting children in Plateau State.
Speaking during the walk, representatives of Ochaworth Leadership and Community Development Initiative emphasized that every child deserves to grow up in a safe, nurturing environment free from violence and exploitation. “The Plateau child cannot wait. From trafficking to sexual abuse, our children are facing threats that rob them of their innocence and future. Today we march to say enough is enough — the time for the state to act is now,” the organization stated.
The event featured placards, chants, and sensitization talks along major streets, with participants calling on parents, schools, traditional leaders, religious institutions, and the Plateau State Government to strengthen child protection systems, enforce existing laws, and prioritize budgetary allocation for child welfare services.
Ochaworth Leadership and Community Development Initiative reaffirmed its commitment to advocacy, community education, and grassroots mobilization to end violence against children. The organization called for stronger collaboration between government and non-state actors to ensure that Plateau State becomes a model for child protection in Nigeria.
