In Nigeria’s present political governance space, where the loudest voices often drown out the most effective leaders, Langtang South Local Government has found in Hon. Nanfa Alhassan Nbin a refreshing example of quiet but effective governance. A soft-spoken gentleman who shuns unnecessary drama and distraction, Nbin has proven that leadership is not about noise, but about service – and his scorecard is speaking volumes.
Perhaps the most telling sign of his leadership style is his refusal to politicize continuity. Unlike many who discard their predecessors’ projects for cheap political gains, Hon. Nbin is completing the Ultramodern Storey Secretariat Complex initiated by his predecessor, Hon. Prince Vincent Venman Bulus, now a member of the House of Representatives. That secretariat today represents an administrative hub, as well as a symbol of maturity and progressive governance – where personal ego bows to the collective good.
He has also tackled one of Langtang South’s most haunting challenges: water scarcity. For decades, successive governments claimed that water could not be drilled in the area. But Hon. Nbin has proved otherwise, drilling motorized solar-powered boreholes that will provide clean water across communities. For the people of Langtang South who dread the dry season because of acute water scarcity, this is more than a project – it is liberation from years of thirst and neglect.
In flood-prone Sabongida, last year around this time, the residents were counting their losses but Hon Nbin’s administration has constructed drainages to protect homes, livelihoods, and farmlands from perennial devastation. This investment in preventive infrastructure tells more about Hon. Nbin’s foresight, ensuring that disaster does not become destiny.
Equally commendable is his stride in the transport sector through the establishment of the Langtang South Express Services. With subsidized fares that ease the burden of rising costs, commuters now pay ₦6,000 from Jos to Mabudi – the Local Government Headquarters – compared to the ₦8,000 charged by commercial drivers.
A trip from Jos to Langtang North costs ₦5,000 under the scheme instead of ₦6,000. This deliberate intervention is also lessening the effects of inflation and restoring confidence in government as a direct provider of relief.
His youth-friendly appointments into key offices also reflect a deliberate investment in the future. Hon Nbin is giving young people a chance at governance, he is nurturing leadership capacity and creating opportunities where many had only seen barriers.
Coupled with his steady hand in maintaining security, Hon. Nbin is ensuring that peace and order provide the foundation for sustainable development. He has done exceedingly well in ensuring that surrounding settlements that border Taraba State have peace
In the heart of the Headquarters too, is another storey building. Not an office building but blocks of locked up shops inititated by another predecessor but is currently completed by Hon Nbin. This is because business activities drive the economy of any society.
Hon. Nanfa Alhassan Nbin may not court the limelight, but his record makes him impossible to ignore. In Langtang South, governance is no longer an abstract promise; it is visible in water flowing from boreholes, in drainages holding back floods, in businesses shops are encouraging trading, in a secretariat buzzing with life, in buses delivering passengers at subsidized rates, and in youths seated at decision-making tables.
This is governance that is felt, not just heard. It is proof that leadership, when anchored on humility and service, can transform communities. Hon. Nbin is not just redefining governance in Langtang South – he is setting a benchmark that others would do well to follow. He speaks loudest in silence with tangible projects and not through media frenzy
