…Demand for the Chairman’s immediate resignation, condemns ethnic profiling of Nimshat by the Chairman
Tarok Progressive Youth Association (TAPYA), the umbrella body of Tarok Youth Worldwide, “has strongly condemned the rascal actions of the Chairman of Kwali Area Council, Hon Danladi Chiya, involving Changla Selchum Nimshat, a respected member of the Association, labelling them as barbaric, callous, and dictatorial. Nimshat, a staff member of the Kwali Area Council was reportedly assaulted in an act of brutality, intimidation, and abuse of power on Monday, February 10, 2024, at approximately 9:49 AM”
National Publicity Secretary, Comr CC Dashe quoted the National President of TAPYA, Amb Miri Timnan Nyantau (M.T.N), in a statement issued in Abuja on Tuesday, 11th February, 2025 and obtained by Trill Times News by saying that “In a typical exhibition of Executive rascality and banditry by the Area Council Chairman, Hon Chiya ordered Mr. Nimshat to his office together with his Head of Department and other officials, where Nimshat was confronted and accused of making statements against the Chairman on social media. Despite his strong denial of any such act, Hon. Danladi Chiya ordered his security aides – including a police officer identified as Hamza, a council staff member named Mr. Gideon, and Protocol Officer Abdullahi Umar – to physically assault him”.
“Shamefully, the Chairman himself, Hon Danladi Chiya attempted to join in the physical assault of Selchum but was restrained by the HOD. As if that zoo mentality of brutality wasn’t enough, the tormenters (Officer Hamza and Abdullahi Umar) in the Chairman’s office, in an act of ethnic discrimination and intimidation, reportedly told Mr. Nimshat that he should ‘go to Plateau State to make demands, not in Kwali, because he is not from Kwali’. The oppressors further threatened to ‘shut him down’ if he continued speaking up”.
According to the press release by TAPYA, Nimshat was reportedly attacked by security personnel and staff under the command of the Chairman of the Kwali Area Council, who is believed to have taken issue with Nimshat’s demands for workers’ legitimate rights.
The Association explicitly described the Chairman’s actions as “executive banditry,” signalling a strong denunciation of what they perceive as an abuse of power. “In the eyes of TAPYA, Nimshat’s attempts to advocate for legitimate rights should be celebrated, not punished. Such actions of challenging evil in the society should be encouraged in building a society where justice prevails, and individuals are empowered to speak out against injustices they face”
Furthermore, TAPYA raised serious concerns about the Chairman, who is expected to serve all constituents fairly and without prejudice. The Association wondered how an elected leader who swore to be fair to all manner of men and entrusted with the responsibility to protect the rights of all citizens, regardless of their ethnic background or social standing suddenly found succor in ethnic profiling of Nimshat.
TAPYA also demanded justice for Nimshat and also insisted on the immediate resignation of the Chairman, Hon Chiya who seem incapable of addressing the concerns of his workers without resorting to violence or intimidation. The resignation of the Chairman, Tarok Youths believed will serve as a deterrent to others and pave way for the thorough investigation of the unfortunate incident
The chairman is a epitome of disgrace….no educational background, no human sympathy. He only believes in tribalism..
Sometimes if fighting for the right will bring trouble up on you and no backup or support, please don’t start it. Thank you.
I rather die fighting for freedom than to die a slave. The chairman has a pure quality of a bandit he should resign honorably.
