In one of the fiercely contested Labour Union elections in recent years held on the Plateau, Comr Selkur Stephen who was recently reelected the Chapter Chairman of Medical Health Workers Union Of Nigeria has emerged the new Chairman of the Plateau State Chapter of the Joint National Public Service Negotiating Council (JNC)
The election which held on Thursday in Jos with Mr Benjamin Anthony, the National President of JNC as the Returning Officer got to a rerun having being tied on eight votes apiece in the first balloting. It was the second balloting that saw Comr Stephen emerged victorious in a simple majority of nine votes against seven
Represented by Mr Adebisi Joseph, the National President declared Comr Selkur Stephen of the Medical and Health Workers Union of Nigeria, as the newly elected Chairman of JNC in the state.
Declaring Comr Stephen the winner, Trill Times News quoted Mr Benjamin Anthony as declaring thus: “Having secured the highest votes, Mr Selkur Stephen is returned as the Chairman of JNC in Plateau.
“Nelly Amamma, is the new Vice Chairman, Timothy Gopep, Secretary, Mohammed Sakburkya, Treasurer and Leah Jina, Assistant Secretary.
“Bitrus Gyang and James Diwa, will serve as Ex Officio one and two, respectively,” he declared.
Mr Stephen Pam, the Head of the Civil Service (HoS) of the state, called on the newly elected officials to be guided by the principles of integrity, fairness and service to the union.
Represented by Mrs Patience Dongjur, the Permanent Secretary Cabinet Office, Establishment and Training, Pam commended the former officials of the council for ensuring industrial harmony in the state.
He called on the new officials to pursue issues that would promote better working relationship between the government and its workforce.
“I want to commend the outgone leadership for their service and contributions to the council.
“Their efforts in sustaining industrial peace and advancing workers’ welfare have set the foundation upon which the new officers must build.
“I urge you to acknowledge their hard work and strive to improve on the gains already made” Pam advised.
The HoS said that The Time Is Now Administration of Barr Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang would continue to prioritize the welfare of its workforce, insisting that a vibrant civil service remains essential toward the growth of the state.
Stephen, the new chairman, who thanked members for voting him, promised not to disappoint the council.
