Tarok Progressive Youth Association (TAPYA), the umbrella body of Tarok youth worldwide, receives with great joy and profound appreciation the approval for the establishment of the 24 Armoured Brigade of the Nigerian Army in Langtang North, Plateau State.
We sincerely thank the President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, His Excellency President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, for approving this historic military formation. We equally appreciate the Minister of Defence, the Chief of Defence Staff and the Chief of Army Staff for the roles they played in making the Brigade a reality.
TAPYA also recognises the Tarok sons and daughters who worked quietly and tirelessly behind the scenes towards this achievement. Their efforts have contributed to a development that will remain significant for generations.
The decision carries special meaning for the Tarok nation. Langtang has long earned the proud description, “Home of Generals,” through an exceptional tradition of military service to Nigeria.
From Gen. Joseph Nanven Garba, Gen. Domkat Yah Bali, Gen. Joshua Nimyel Dogonyaro, Gen. Jeremiah Timbut Useni, Gen John Nanzip Shagaya, Air Marshal Jonah David Wuyep and Gen. Jonathan Temlong to many other highly decorated Tarok generals, officers and men, our people have made remarkable contributions to the Nigerian Armed Forces. Some commanded troops, occupied strategic national positions and served the country during defining moments in its history.
The establishment of the 24 Armoured Brigade in Langtang therefore represents more than the location of a military formation. It is a fitting recognition of a people whose relationship with military service, sacrifice and national duty runs deep.
Beyond its symbolic importance, the Brigade will strengthen security across Langtang, southern Plateau and adjoining areas. A stronger security presence will provide greater confidence for farming, commerce, movement of people and goods, and other productive activities.
Its wider benefits can also stimulate employment and local enterprise while encouraging further investment in roads, housing, markets, healthcare, education, telecommunications, transport, hospitality and supporting infrastructure.
For TAPYA, good governance must be acknowledged when its impact is felt by the people. When government takes a decision that advances the security and development of the Tarok nation, Plateau State and Nigeria, we believe such action deserves recognition and support.
We therefore say to President Tinubu: the Tarok nation appreciates this historic gesture.
We call on Tarok sons and daughters, traditional institutions, youth and stakeholders to support the successful take-off of the 24 Armoured Brigade and to build a relationship of mutual respect, cooperation and peaceful coexistence with the officers and men who will serve in Langtang.
Langtang has produced generals for Nigeria. Today, Nigeria is bringing a Brigade Command to the Home of Generals.
That is both history and honour.
