Upon assumption of office on Saturday, October 11, 2024, Hon. Pirfa Jingfa Tyem, Executive Chairman of Langtang North, has been subjected to a barrage of criticism from some quarters branding his administration as “non-performing.”
Yet when weighed against the facts on ground, these accusations collapse under their own emptiness.
The question is not whether Pirfa has underperformed, but whether his critics are being fair – or simply indulging in cynical condemnation to score cheap political goals and discredit him.
In less than one year, Hon. Pirfa has delivered projects that meet the very heart of grassroots needs. 1,000 JAMB forms were purchased for students whose dreams might otherwise have ended for lack of opportunity.
Boreholes across all 18 wards have brought relief to Tarok villages long plagued by water scarcity.
In education, new blocks of classrooms in Somung and Kalapi are giving children a dignified space to learn, while the renovation of the Education Office complex has strengthened the administrative backbone of the sector.
To Pirfa, health is wealth, this explains why, healthcare, which is often the weakest link in local governance, has witnessed extraordinary development.
Under Pirfa’s leadership, Langtang North now ranks first in the Seasonal Malaria Chemoprevention (SMC) program – a record that translates to healthier families and fewer child deaths.
More than 40 ad-hoc medical staff have been recruited to man Primary Health Centers (PHCs), with PHC Nwere receiving additional two new staff to boost service delivery. This is in addition to the employment of over 70 security men specifically tasked with safeguarding PHCs, ensuring that healthcare workers can serve without fear and equipment are not stolen or vandalized. Armchair Critics often ignore the symbolic yet powerful steps taken by this administration. The revamping of Ngapak FM and procurement of a permanent broadcasting license has preserved Tarok’s voice and serves as a platform for civic engagement, education, entertainment and enlightenment.
The remodeling of the LGC Block into functional offices clearly shows that attention to both form and function in governance is prioritized.
Even welfare has not been overlooked – “Mai Angwas” now receive monthly stipends, a bold acknowledgment of the critical roles of traditional institutions in sustaining peace and harmony.
Security and mobility were not left behind. The Chairman has purchased 21 motorcycles, ready for distribution to facilitate both educational supervision and security patrols. This will ensure that that no nooks and crannies of Langtang North is cut off from government presence.
Added to this is the upward review of salaries for cleaners and volunteer Civil Defence personnel, a gesture that did not only boosts morale but affirms the dignity Pirfa attaches to labour.
Pragmatic and futuristic digital reforms have also begun. Hon. Pirfa has ensured the development of a functional website for the Local Government, soon to be launched, that will open a new era of transparency and digital governance in Langtang North.
To mitigate recurring community clashes that has been the major cause of internal security-related challenges, the Chairman also revamped the Land Allocation and Administration Committee (LAAC), responsible for issuing Statutory Rights of Occupancy (SROs), since Local Governments cannot issue Certificates of Occupancy (C of O) reserved for the Governor. Effective October 1st, 2025, applications for SROs shall be reviewed by the committee, with rightful SROs issued – restoring order, accountability, and fairness in land administration.
Lining up these achievements, one wonders: on what basis can any fair-minded person brand this administration as “non-performing”? The evidence speaks for itself – visible, measurable, and impactful. The louder the cries of “failure,” the clearer it becomes that some criticisms are less about facts and more about politics, envy, or armchair cynicism.
To be clear, constructive criticism is welcome – it sharpens governance and keeps leaders accountable. But baseless condemnation does nothing but poison the public space and discourage honest effort.
It must be noted that no leader can solve all challenges in a single year. What Pirfa has done is lay a strong foundation, and in that, he deserves commendation, not condemnation.
To the good people of Langtang North, the message is clear: do not be swayed by distractors whose only agenda is to derail progress. Stand firm, support Hon Pirfa Jingfa Tyem and his amiable Deputy, Hon Deborah Binbut Dalen, and hold them accountable with fairness – not with malice.
