Abuja — Former Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Chief Timipre Sylva, has reportedly fled Nigeria amid ongoing investigations into an alleged plot to overthrow the government of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Reliable sources told Trill Times News that Sylva escaped through the creeks to Senegal after receiving intelligence that his involvement in the purported coup had been exposed. He is believed to be en route to Argentina, where he reportedly maintains several business interests.
According to insider accounts, Sylva who once lobbied for an ambassadorial posting to Argentina was mentioned as the alleged “arrowhead and financier” of the coup plot by one of the military officers earlier arrested in connection with the plan.
Security sources also claimed that about ₦46 billion was traced to an account linked to the former minister. Following the revelation, operatives of the Defence Intelligence Agency (DIA) reportedly raided Sylva’s Abuja residence, arresting his brother, Paga Sylva. Earlier, a similar raid was said to have been conducted at his Bayelsa home, where foreign currency and documents described as “incriminating evidence” were allegedly recovered.
Authorities are yet to release an official statement regarding the claims. However, defence sources hinted that investigations are ongoing to uncover the full extent of the alleged plot and those involved in financing it.
Efforts to reach Chief Timipre Sylva or his associates for comment were unsuccessful as of press time.
