The Delta State Government has announced plans to introduce a bill aimed at regulating rent increases and ensuring more affordable housing for residents. Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Emomotimi Guwor, made the disclosure during a press conference in Asaba.
The bill, sponsored by the House Leader, Hon. Emeka Nwaobi, and 27 other members, seeks to address the growing concern over rising house rents in the state, particularly in urban centers like Asaba, Warri, Sapele, and Ughelli.
The Assembly will work closely with relevant stakeholders, including the state Ministry of Housing, real estate developers, landlords’ associations, and civil society groups, to ensure that the proposed bill is balanced and enforceable.
The bill is expected to bring relief to low- and middle-income earners who are struggling with high rent costs. The Assembly hopes that the legislation will promote fair housing policies and protect both tenants and landlords.
The House has made significant progress in its legislative duties, passing several landmark bills and engaging in oversight activities. The Speaker highlighted the Assembly’s commitment to enacting people-centered laws that address real issues and improve the quality of life in Delta State.
