The Secretary to the Government of Plateau State, Arc Samuel Nanchang Jatau, FNIA, joined family members, friends, and the community of Langtang North to pay his last respects at the burial ceremony of the late Mr. Joseph Laven.
In a heartfelt tribute delivered during the service, Arch. Jatau described the late Joseph as a dependable companion in life’s journey, a genuine peace-maker, and a man of good character. Reflecting on their shared past, he noted that both of them attended Boys Secondary School (BSS) Gindiri, where he had been a senior to Joseph. According to him, their time together at BSS left lasting memories of Joseph’s humility, kindness, and ability to foster harmony among his peers.
“Joseph was more than just a schoolmate or a friend,” the SGS remarked. “He was someone who truly understood the value of peace and lived his life striving to maintain it. His loss is not only felt by his immediate family, but also by all of us who knew and walked with him.”
Expressing deep sympathy, Arch. Jatau extended his condolences to the entire Laven family, praying that God Almighty will grant them the strength, comfort, and grace needed to bear the weight of this painful loss. He assured the family of the government’s thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.
As he addressed the congregation, the SGS used the solemn occasion to share a reflective message, urging everyone to take stock of their lives. He emphasized the importance of settling one’s relationship with God while still alive.
“Today, we mourn Joseph, who has finished his journey on earth,” he said. “Now, it is our turn to live right. Let us be reminded that life is temporary. As the Scriptures say, it is appointed unto man once to die, and after that, judgment. We must all be prepared for that time.”
The SGS concluded his remarks by encouraging those present to continue promoting peace and unity in their communities, just as the late Joseph Laven did in his lifetime.
