Jos – Governor Caleb Mutfwang of Plateau State has expressed the state’s deepest appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for appointing Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda as the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The Governor made the remarks at the COCIN Headquarters in Jos during the funeral service of Late Mama Lydia Yilwatda, mother of the APC National Chairman.
In a gesture that underscored leadership and political tolerance, Trill Times News reports that Governor Mutfwang openly acknowledged the trust reposed in Prof. Yilwatda despite their political rivalry. It will be recalled that the Governor defeated Prof. Yilwatda in the keenly contested 2023 Governorship election.
“On behalf of the good and hospitable people of Plateau State, I want to most sincerely express our deepest appreciation to you for finding one of my subjects worthy of the exalted position of the APC National Chairman,” Governor Mutfwang stated.
The Governor, recalling their days in secondary school, further remarked: “Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda was my junior from our Secondary School where we gave maximum respect to our seniors, but I am personally glad that you trusted him and Plateau State with the position he is occupying. Accept our deepest appreciation, Mr President.”
The moment which can best be described as a unifying gesture, further shows the Governor’s maturity in putting aside political differences to honour the memory of Late Mama Lydia Yilwatda and celebrate the achievements of her son.
Governor Mutfwang sent a strong message of peace, unity, and reconciliation – values much needed in Plateau politics and Nigeria’s democratic space.
