GWANDARA, Nasarawa State. The Nasarawa State Chapter of Ochaworth Leadership and Community Development Initiative (OWLACDI) today carried out a pad outreach at Government Secondary School, Gwandara, to commemorate Menstrual Hygiene Day 2026.
Though Menstrual Hygiene Day was observed globally on May 28, Ochaworth’s team held their outreach today, June 1, 2026. Led by the Nasarawa State Coordinator, Anna Gowok, the team distributed free sanitary pads to 45 female students.
The students also received sensitization on menstrual hygiene, personal cleanliness, and breaking period stigma.
For many of the girls, the support came at a critical time. One student shared that her family had never used pads, relying instead on rags — a stark reminder that period poverty remains a reality for many households.
“This is my first time being involved in an outreach like this, and it makes me so happy and fulfilled,” Coordinator Anna Gowok said. “The girls were excited and grateful for the pads and the education. Our goal is to make periods dignified, safe, and stigma-free for every girl in Nasarawa.”
The outreach is part of Ochaworth’s “Together for a Period-Friendly World” campaign, aimed at improving access to menstrual products and health education in schools across the nation.
