The ancient city of Wase in Plateau State distinguished by it’s famous tourist focal point, the historic Wase rock lay bathed in excitement, joy and happiness as His Excellency, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, the APC National Chairman and immediate past governor of Kano State, the iconic political figure of Wase and Deputy Speaker of the 9th Assembly, Rt Hon Ahmed Idris Wase, the sagacious and workaholic Rt Hon Yusuf Babayo Gagdi and Hon Prince Vincent Venman stormed the largest local government by land mass to commission the Central Mosque.
Going down memory lane, Ganduje who served as a Commissioner under the late Col Abdullahi Wase when he was the military governor of Kano State recalled how the military governor had conceived, inititated and commenced work on the Mosque about 30 years ago. The Mosque project was stalled due to the untimely demise of Col Wase who sadly died in a plane crash in Jos on his way to supervising the progress of work on the Mosque
Wase city no doubt has witnessed countless milestones throughout its existence, but none perhaps shone as brightly as the day the APC National Chairman, His Excellency Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, alongside the 9th National Assembly Deputy Speaker, Rt Hon Ahmed Idris Wase, visited to commission a remodelled mosque. This is because the mosque that was close to the heart of the late military governor of Kano State, Col Abdullahi Wase came to reality more than three decades after. It was also an opportunity to honour a past leader whose spirit still resided in the hearts of Wase residents.
Speaking also, Rt Hon Ahmed Idris Wase, a man of the people, whose commitment to transforming Wase is never in doubt eulogized the forebearers of the Mosque project and reserved specialpraise for Ganduje.He prayed for the repose of the souls of the forebearers
Rt Hon Wase spoke of the late Col Abdullahi Wase, commemorating his visionary leadership and how the mosque was not only a place of worship but a symbol of hope, unity, and resilience of the Wase people.
Performing the commissioning, His Excellency Ganduje spoke eloquently, emphasising the importance of places of worship in nurturing community values. He encouraged the gathered villagers to leverage the mosque not just for spiritual guidance, but as a centre for community gathering, education, and support.
Reflecting on the transformative history of the Mosque, the Emir of Wase, Dr Haruna Sambo Abdullahi said it was evident that the commissioning of the remodelled mosque was more than an event; it was a catalyst for change, bringing hope to many. The legacy of Col Abdullahi Wase lived on within the walls of that mosque, inspiring both the old and young alike to build a future that held the promise of unity, strength, and achievement.
The mosque strategically located at the heart of Wase, shall be a constant reminder of what can be achieved when a community unites for a common cause no matter how long it takes. The event was witnessed by highly ranked Isalmic scholars from Abuja, Kano and Plateau State including the Deputy Speaker of the Plateau State House of Assembly
The old mosque, which had served the town for generations, had undergone significant renovations. Its new façade gleamed with a bright white sheen, while intricate Islamic motifs adorned the exterior walls. Inside, the prayer hall was spacious and airy, with delicate carvings showcasing the talented craftsmanship of local artisans. The bright lanterns hung from the high ceiling cast a warm glow, providing an inviting atmosphere for prayer and reflection.
