Nigerian troops under the Joint Task Force North West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have recorded another major success against terrorism and banditry with the elimination of two terrorists in Kebbi State and the rescue of 62 kidnapped victims in Zamfara State.
The Nigerian Army said the operations were carried out by troops of 8 Division/Sector 2 following credible intelligence. According to the Acting Deputy Director, Army Public Relations, Lt.-Col. Olaniyi Osoba, troops laid an ambush at Kerani village near the border between Augie Local Government Area of Kebbi State and Binji Local Government Area of Sokoto State, targeting members of the Lakurawa terrorist group.
During the encounter, two terrorists were neutralised and two motorcycles were recovered. The terrorists were said to be wearing camouflage uniforms and moving with motorcycles modified for long-distance operations.
In a separate operation in Zamfara State, troops stormed Munhaye Forest, a notorious hideout linked to bandit leader Kachalla Alti. The operation led to the successful rescue of 62 abducted persons, who are now in safe custody. Security authorities said arrangements are underway to reunite the victims with their families after screening and necessary support.
The Army noted that the operations were carried out in collaboration with other security agencies and local vigilante groups, reflecting a strong and united approach to tackling insecurity in the North-West.
