Bashir Ahmad, former media aide to ex-President Muhammadu Buhari, has called on critics of President Bola Tinubu’s Muslim-Muslim presidency to tender an apology.
Bashir said this in reaction to Yakubu Pam, the Chairman of the Northern Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), claiming that Christians enjoy a better lease of life under Tinubu’s government.
While speaking on Arise TV’s The Morning Show on Wednesday, January 29, the CAN chairman said the discrimination and prosecution Christians suffered under previous administrations have reduced.
Pam’s claim corroborated his recent remark about Tinubu’s presidency despite his opposition during the 2023 presidential election build-up.
CAN’s rejection of Tinubu’s Muslim-Muslim presidency was anchored on the sentiment that an all-Muslim presidential ticket would polarise the country along religious lines.
While addressing journalists on Saturday, the Christian leader commended the president for demonstrating inclusiveness in his government.
However, as the Northern CAN chair sings Tinubu’s praises, Ahmad asked critics of the Muslim-Muslim presidency to come forward and apologise for peddling falsehoods about the all-Muslim presidential ticket the ruling All Progressives Congress presented in the 2023 general elections.
Reacting to Vanguard’s report on the CAN chair’s claim about Northern Christians enjoying a better life under Tinubu’s government, Ahmad said the narrative that an all-Muslim ticket was a ploy to islamise Nigeria and oppress non — Muslims has proved to be a falsehood.
He wrote: “Those who insulted us for supporting the Tinubu/Shettima ticket should come forward and apologize. The claims that a Muslim/Muslim presidency would oppress them or Islamize the country have proven to be yet another falsehood.”
Ahmad served as Special Assistant on Digital Communications to ex-President Muhammadu Buhari.
