The much contemplated and rumoured idea of changing the nation’s number two man, Sen Kashim Shettima as the running mate to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress, APC shall be greeted with outright rejection and protest votes against Tinubu, Spiritual leader and National Chairman, Ulam’u Council of Jama’atu Izalatil Bid’a Wa’ikamatis Sunnah (JIBWIS), Sheikh Sani Yahaya Jingir warned.
Sheikh Jingir reputable for his fearless views about political developments in the country disclosed this during a religious congregation at the Yantaya Mosque in Jos, the Plateau State capital.
Following the historic same faith ticket floated by President Tinubu, Sheikh Jingir supported President Tinubu’s election in 2023 and urged his followers to do likewise. That is however, rumoured to be changed considering several factors
Responding on recent development in the ruling APC, the spiritual leader said “ I have learned that some unpatriotic people within and outside the APC have been making efforts to destroy Tinubu’s relationship and Shettima to achieve their surreptitious goals. That is not a welcome president Tinubu.
“Myself and others around me supported Tinubu and Shettima, and we’re backing your joint ticket. Any attempt to drop Shettima, I wouldn’t support that move because they had earlier agreed to contest and work together. I supported them without taking a penny from them. Although i am close to Atiku Abubakar, I chose to vote for Tinubu and Shettima. There are rumors circulating that things aren’t going well between them but I don’t believe it. In my opinion, it’s the work of their enemies, “ the Jingir said.
This, it would be recalled is coming few weeks after the national Chairman of the ruling APC and Zonal Chairman of the party in the North East, the zone where Shettima comes from, escaped lynching narrowly in Gombe when the duo endorsed the reelection of President Tinubu without mentioning Shettima
Sheikh Jingir, however, urged President Tinubu not to listen to those calling for him to drop Shettima in 2027, describing such people as enemies of progress. He reiterated that if Tinubu contests alongside Shettima on a joint ticket, he and others around him will support them.
Shettima is tipped to be dropped because of political reason. Shettima’s North East, offered nothing significantly in President Tinubu’s emergence in 2023. Instead, People’s Democratic Party PDP presidential candidate and former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar who also hails from the region controlled the votes
