A northern political commentator, Mallam Jabir, has issued a strong warning to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu over what he described as alleged moves to target former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, and other northern opposition figures.
In a post shared on his verified X handle — formerly known as Twitter — on Friday, 13th February 2026, Jabir cautioned the Federal Government against taking action against El-Rufai.
“If this government makes the mistake of going after Mallam Nasir El-Rufai, especially now that they have begun targeting Kwankwaso and other northern leaders simply because of their political affiliation, that’s when they will see the true colors of Northerners,” he wrote.
“We are watching closely,” he added.
In a follow-up post later the same day, Jabir expanded on his claims, alleging that the government’s actions against certain opposition leaders are politically motivated rather than based on accountability.
“The truth is, this government is not targeting opposition leaders because they have questions to answer,” he stated. “They are going after them simply because they are not part of the government and are willing to challenge the APC government.”
He further argued that support for figures such as Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso and El-Rufai does not amount to an endorsement of corruption or unethical conduct.
“That is why many of us are standing with them — not because we support corruption, tribalism, nepotism, or any unethical practices — but because the government’s actions are driven by bad intentions, not justice,” Jabir wrote.
He concluded with a defiant remark: “We cannot be intimidated by any undesirable element.”
As of the time of filing this report, there has been no official response from the Presidency regarding Jabir’s comments.
