In what many observers have described as a remarkable humanitarian gesture in the political history of Langtang North, an aspirant of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) for Langtang Central, Philemon Solomon Miri, has flagged off a comprehensive two-week free medical outreach for residents of the constituency.
The outreach, which commenced in his hometown of Gazum District, attracted an impressive turnout of more than two hundred beneficiaries, including children, youth and the elderly who came to access various essential healthcare services.
Tagged “Health is Wealth” the initiative is designed to reach all nine wards in the constituency: Warok, Kwallak, Funyalang, Jat, Pil-Gani, Reak, Pishe-Yashi, Kwanpe and Keller. The programme will run in phases, ensuring that residents across the wards benefit from the free medical services.
At the official flag-off ceremony held in Gazum, the District Head, Pastor Bello Shik of Gazum, alongside community, religious leaders and ADC ward executives, commended Hon. Miri for what they described as a rare show of compassion and commitment to the wellbeing of the people.
They noted that such an initiative from a political aspirant reflects a genuine desire to serve the community beyond campaign promises.
Addressing the gathering, Hon. Miri stressed that good health remains the foundation of productivity and mental wellbeing. He explained that the decision to bring the medical services directly to the people was driven by his concern for their welfare.
“I brought these services home because the physical and mental health of my people is my top priority,” he said, urging residents experiencing health challenges to take advantage of the opportunity.
Also speaking, his Personal Assistant, Mr. Nannim, encouraged constituents through Ngapak Otarok (Tarok Radio) to turn out in large numbers and benefit from the programme, describing it as a life-saving intervention for many families.
According to the organisers, the outreach will run on a scheduled rotation across the wards, beginning with Warok, Kwallak and Funyalang, before moving to Jat, Reak, Pil-Gani, Pishe-Yashi, Kwanpe and Keller in subsequent phases.
In a further demonstration of solidarity with the community, Hon. Miri concluded the day with a condolence visit to Mr. Clement Bali over the loss of his son, accompanied by members of his team.
