Academic Staff Union Of Universities (ASUU) President, Professor Chris Piwuna, has raised alarm over the rising death toll among university lecturers, revealing that over 60% have died in just the past three months.

He spoke during a medical outreach organised by the ASUU chapter at Federal University of Lafia (FULAFIA), targeting over 400 teaching staff for health screenings.

The initiative includes tests for blood pressure, BMI, eye health, lipid profile, full blood count, and hepatitis screening.

The Vice Chancellor, represented by Professor Aleruchi Chuku, stressed the importance of good health for academic productivity.

Dr. Sunday Orinya, ASUU FULAFIA Chairman, emphasized that staff welfare is a top priority, while Professor Ishaku Bako expressed concern over lecturers collapsing from stress.

The outreach was praised by staff members, who urged continued efforts to safeguard the health of academics across Nigeria.
