The Rector of Plateau State Polytechnic, Barkin Ladi, Dr. Clement Selchum Chirman, has announced that the institution now offers every programme available in polytechnic education, describing the development as a major step forward for the school.
Dr. Chirman made this known on Friday during the 2025/2026 academic session matriculation ceremony held at the institution’s main campus in Heipang, where newly admitted students were formally received into the polytechnic.
In his address, the Rector warned the students to stay away from social vices that could destroy their academic future.
He urged them to remain focused on their studies and to conduct themselves in ways that will reflect positively on the institution and their families.
According to him, students must remember that they came to the polytechnic to acquire knowledge, skills, and character that will prepare them for life after school.
Dr. Chirman also used the occasion to praise the Visitor to the institution, Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang, the Executive Governor of Plateau State, for his strong support toward the development of the polytechnic.
He said the Governor has played a key role in expanding the academic strength of the institution, especially with the successful accreditation, re-accreditation and resource inspection of more than 45 academic programmes.
The Rector explained that with the approval of these programmes, students no longer need to travel to other states to study certain polytechnic courses.
He said the institution now has the capacity to offer the full range of polytechnic education within Plateau State Polytechnic.
He further appreciated the cooperation and support of the Plateau State Ministry of Education for always giving priority to the needs and programmes of the school.
Dr. Chirman also commended the Governing Council led by former Vice-Chancellor of the University of Jos, Hayward Mafuyai, as well as the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), the staff, and students of the institution for their continuous support and commitment.
Meanwhile, Trill Times News reports that this year’s matriculation ceremony was special in many ways. With the recent increase in transport fares, which many people linked to the global tensions surrounding the Iran–United States war, several students had earlier feared they might not be able to attend the event.
However, the management of the polytechnic stepped in by providing Metro Buses to transport students from the Jos campus to the Heipang main campus and back. The arrangement made it possible for many students to take part in the important ceremony without facing the burden of high transport costs.
Some of the students who spoke with our reporters expressed appreciation to the management for the thoughtful arrangement.
They also praised the school authorities for keeping to the academic calendar, noting that the announcement that first semester examinations will begin on April 7, 2026 shows the institution’s seriousness about maintaining academic discipline.
The ceremony attracted a large gathering of traditional rulers, parents, guardians, and friends of the institution, who came to witness the formal admission of the new students into the academic community of Plateau State Polytechnic as they were entertained by the Asharuwa and Berom dancers
