Ahead of the 2027 general elections, Trill Times News can exclusively report that a major political shift is quietly gathering momentum in Plateau State, with Brig. Gen. John Sura set to part ways with the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Sources close to the unfolding development revealed that Gen. Sura is not alone in the planned move. Two other prominent figures, Sarpiya and Dapar, are also expected to exit the ruling party, signaling what may become a wider realignment of political forces in the state.
Gen. Sura, who contested the 2023 governorship under the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) before losing the ticket to Governor Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang, had earlier left the PDP on the 12th August, 2025 largely due to political differences at the time.
However, the recent defection of Governor Mutfwang to the APC appears to have reopened old calculations, prompting key players to reassess their positions.
A source who spoke on condition of anonymity told Trill Times News that since the governor’s defection, several political heavyweights have been quietly weighing their next move, with growing concerns about their future within the APC.
Findings by Trill Times News indicate that the African Democratic Congress (ADC) is emerging as the likely destination for the trio. The party has recently gained attention after welcoming nine senators on the floor of the National Assembly, a development that has strengthened its appeal as a viable alternative platform.
Although a return to the PDP was initially considered, multiple sources confirmed that the lingering internal crises and recurring litigations within the party discouraged that option.
There are also strong indications that Chief Kefas Ropshik, widely known as Kefiano, may be aligning with the emerging political movement. The billionaire automobile businessman and philanthropist is said to be playing a quiet but strategic role in the ongoing consultations.
Kefiano, according to reliable information, distanced himself from the faction of the PDP linked to Nyesom Wike, despite its growing influence and likelihood of recognition by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
His decision is believed to be rooted in deep respect for elder statesman, Jonah David Jang, whom he holds in very high regard. Aligning with a faction perceived to be at variance with the former governor was considered inappropriate.
Meanwhile, there is a growing sense of caution among other politicians across the state. Many are said to be closely monitoring the situation and may take similar steps if there are signs of imposition or exclusion within the already crowded APC.
