Plateau State Polytechnic, Barkin-Ladi, has successfully completed a comprehensive accreditation, reaccreditation and resource inspection exercise conducted by the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE), covering a total of 45 academic programmes across the institution.
The exercise, which commenced with an opening ceremony at the institution’s Main Campus in Heipang, brought together management staff, government representatives and members of the NBTE accreditation team. Speaking during the opening session, the Rector of the Polytechnic, Dr. Clement Selchum Chirman, described the accreditation exercise as a critical process for strengthening academic standards and ensuring quality assurance in technical education.
Dr. Chirman commended the NBTE for its continuous efforts in safeguarding the quality and credibility of technical and vocational education in Nigeria. He particularly appreciated the Team Leader, Dr. Fatima K. Umar, for accepting the responsibility of leading the accreditation team to the institution, expressing confidence that the exercise would be conducted professionally and in line with established standards.
Responding on behalf of the visiting team, Dr. Umar assured the Polytechnic management that the exercise would be carried out with diligence and strict adherence to NBTE guidelines. She noted that the team was committed to maintaining transparency and professionalism throughout the inspection process.
Also present at the opening ceremony was the Chairman of the Governing Council, Prof. Hayward Mafuye, who emphasized the importance of accreditation in maintaining institutional standards. He urged the NBTE team to conduct a thorough and objective evaluation of the programmes, assuring them that the Council would promptly address any gaps or recommendations identified during the exercise.
The Plateau State Government was represented by the Honourable Commissioner for Education through the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Education, who reaffirmed the government’s commitment to supporting the Polytechnic with the necessary resources to enhance teaching, learning and research. She added that the state government remains determined to position the institution to compete favourably both nationally and globally.
According to the Information Unit of the Polytechnic, later in the evening, the NBTE team presented its exit report at the J.C. Dariye Hall of the Jos Campus, where the institution and the Plateau State Government were commended for their commitment to the development of education in the state. While identifying a few areas that require improvement, the team acknowledged the Polytechnic’s readiness and dedication to sustaining existing programmes and expanding its academic offerings.
The successful completion of the exercise marks another important step in Plateau State Polytechnic’s drive toward academic excellence and its continued mission of delivering quality technical education.
